pandemic life

For me, at least, one of the worst things about the pandemic has been its effect on my motivation. I've been feeling largely unmotivated to do much of anything throughout this thing. Sure, there's been spurts and moments where I've been active and accomplishing things I want to accomplish, but I've been largely slowed down from my normal pace of things. Instead of working on projects, I've been mostly playing video games and such.

Most of the past year has felt a bit like we've been on standby. The pandemic made us shut ourselves in, and that's mostly where we've stayed for the past year. Starting in October, we also started packing everything we own into boxes. In February, we moved from California to Michigan into a temporary rental house, while we wait for our new house to be finished building. More than half our stuff is still in boxes. It's just been feeling like we've been just waiting for a year.

Now, we're fully vaccinated, and in less than 6 weeks, we're going to get the keys to our new house. This month, I'm going to be seeing and meeting many new and old friends in person for the first time in a year.

Life is about to start for us again. We're going to have all our stuff unpacked, our house finished, and so on and so forth.

Exciting times!

We even went shopping this weekend! Went to a few gaming stores to check out items there, and did a lot of furniture shopping! I'll attach an image of a bedroom set I'm eyeing for myself!

At the gaming store, we picked up Blood Bowl Season 2, so I'm really excited to check that out and my game on there. :)

I'm personally really excited about the new house in part because I finally am going to get my own room there. For over a decade, I've always shared my bedroom with my current primary partner. It's been really nice, but there have also been drawbacks. For example, if I want to go on a date with someone else.

Over the last 5 years, my life has stabilized into having 2 life partners who live with me, and 2 long distance partners with whom I have a less intermingled relationship.

I've dated a bit outside of those 4, but these are the ones for whom the relationships are stable and solid.

This stable situation just kinda makes wanting/having a room to myself to feel kinda necessary. That way I'm not prioritizing one life partner over the other, nor do I have to do awkward finagling to get private space when I have a partner over from outside our triad thing.

AND I have my own space again for the first time in over a decade!

@pandora_parrot my husband never liked the idea of me having a bedroom or space to myself so I never have as an adult, I had college roommates and then I was married and that's it. Having my own bedroom has been one of the most exciting things about the last four months. I'm painting it and buying stuff for it myself, and having other partners over hadn't happened yet but I'm so excited for it to.

@bright_helpings @pandora_parrot 🙏
I'm in a similar situation. I lived in student housing for 5 years, moved in around the same time me and Loa started dating. We lived there together for a while, knowing it was temporary not too much energy read put into making it ours other than making it work for the moment. Then we moved back to the UK, and lived with parents then friends (funnily enough same room as Erik is talking about now. 😅). Now we're in our own house, we plan to live here for somewhere between 5-10 years. We're even taking about remodeling the kitchen.
But that's something we can do. We can build our own home.
